New sphinx

"Crypto-Gram Newsletter - July 15, 2013" by Bruce Schneier, particularly:
  1. "Evidence that the NSA Is Storing Voice Content, Not Just Metadata" (also:  "The crux of the NSA story in one phrase: 'collect it all'" by Glenn Greenwald) - this is the real story that various spins of the limited hangout are intended to obscure;
  2.  "Blowback from the NSA Surveillance" - obviously, the Americans can't be trusted with the internet;
  3. "How the NSA Eavesdrops on Americans" (also, the crucial shift in the FISA court:  "Former FISC Judge Quit Over Warrantless Wiretapping, Now Argues FISC Is Out Of Control")

"Trayvon Martin and the Irony of American Justice"  "Burden and Quantum of Proof as to Self-Defense"  If you are handy in a fight and don't mind taking a bit of a beating - to establish the evidence that 'self-defense' was an issue - anybody can use the weird American concept of self defense to get away with murder.  You initiate a violent encounter sufficient to ensure your victim will instinctively take steps to defend himself, claim you then feared for your own life, and execute the victim using the weapon you are carrying.  It helps a lot that the main witness, your victim, is dead, and the onus is on the prosecution to establish that your fear was phony.  For some reason (incompetence?), the prosecution in the Zimmerman case expressly conceded all the parts of the defense, meaning that Zimmerman did not even have to testify.

"Unique Egyptian sphinx unearthed in north Israel"  I don't think they have fully thought through the implications for the Exodus mythology.

"Up Against The Wall, America! Sen. Schumer Touts NYPD Chief Kelly For Next Head Of Homeland Security"  They should call it what it is:  the Department of Islamophobia.  Funny Sailer:  "Janet Napolitano & UC's 'powerful coterie of lesbians'"
