Lèse majesté

We finally have a name for the victim of the British royal blackmail scandal.  The writer who revealed it, Nicholas Davies, is probably on his way to the Tower for the inevitable beheading.  I’m all for hiding the names of blackmail victims, if only to encourage future blackmail victims to come forward.  On the other hand, if this fellow is receiving British taxpayer funds, or living off the proceeds of property which should be public property, and spending some of that money on cocaine, I think privacy claims are trumped by the public’s right to know.  The censorship seems to have backfired, as rampant speculation on the internet started to lead to more important royal figures (the number of flaming poofters in the immediate Royal family is impressive).
