You'll find it hard to uncover amidst all the praise, but Zinn, like Chomsky, was lite, and refused to even consider the importance of the Zionist Power Configuration. There are different types of lite, but the common standard is that they refuse to attack Zionism at what they consider to be its weakest spot (Zinn would happily criticize Zionist violence, and supported BDS, but refused to attack the root of the problem). Unfortunately, Jewish ethnocentrism ruins his entire life's work, as it makes it appear to be merely a front to protect Zionism. You are either in favor of human rights or you are not. There is no Jewish exception.
