The trial of Abu Anas al-
Libi - who just died of liver cancer - could have been a big mess for the American government. Al-Libi, like Ali Mohamed, with whom he
worked, was one of these double (or triple agents), both a 'terrorist' and an agent of American intelligence. This is the kind of thing the Americans didn't want publicized in a trial. The prosecution conducted itself exactly as you might expect:
- it delayed discovery long enough for the cancer to progress;
- it effectively denied treatment of the cancer, thus ensuring that the defendant wouldn't live long enough to be tried.
